Eligibility Assistant

Summary: Assists the Eligibility Specialists in completing the eligibility determination and provide secretarial support as needed for SSA Department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: includes the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Initiates new records (electronic and soft file) upon referral for County Board Services and enrollment into Adult Services.
  • Compiles eligibility and enrollment packets.
  • Maintains and updates information in the database when received.
  • Gathers background information for applicants by sending out releases and follows up on obtaining needed information for eligibility determinations.
  • Updates referral / resource information. This may necessitate phone calls and writing for more information or brochures.
  • Monitors and initiates the redetermination of eligibility for Board Services before the age of 3, 6 and 16.
  • Processes the files when eligibility is determined including but not limited to notifying the family via mail.
  • Coordinates and closes out of single service or out of all services.
  • Processes information at the time of enrollment to Adult Services.
  • Completes the IDS (Information Data System) as individuals open and close in different services and updates any demographic changes.
  • Notifies and requests documentation for Adult Services Enrollment. Distributes enrollment documentation and maintains the waiting list.
  • Receives and processes Referral for Service and Status Change forms for the SSA Department.
  • Answers SSA Department phones as requested.
  • Serves as a back-up for entering MUI information into state database.
  • When the Eligibility Specialist is not present, accepts and addresses inquiries for information and services including meeting with the family.
  • Maintain SSA waiting lists.
  • Assist the Eligibility Specialist in the voter registration record retention.
  • Establishes and maintain positive rapport with other agencies and co-workers.
  • Prepares and provides reports and other necessary information as requested to agency staff.
  • Assist with distribution and mailing of ISPs and other general correspondence as requested.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications: High School Diploma required.  Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred.

Applicant must meet the requirements below…

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database software; Spreadsheet software, internal network functions, and Word Processing software.  Must meet agency computer competency level requirements.
  • Must meet agency driving requirements. May be required to drive agency vehicles.  Must hold valid State of Ohio driver’s license.
  • Must successfully complete a BCII background check.
  • Must meet all other agency employment requirements.  Must meet all requirements as outlined on the corresponding job description.

Salary: At least $29,678 annually; negotiable based on experience
Hours: 40 hours per week
Available: No later than February 1, 2025
